About Alternative Therapy
Alternative therapy refers to any treatment that has the same benefits as medically proven treatment options but is not based on empirical/research evidence based on scientific methods. The healing effects are often similar, at times even better, than regular therapy options. There are a number of procedures, practices, and healthcare products offered in alternate therapy.
While alternative therapy may be looked upon with suspicion by proponents of regular medical practices, some alternative therapies might actually prove to be much better than the prescribed set of medical practices. There are a number of schools of alternative therapy, and encompasses many different disciplines such as homeopathy, acupuncture, chiropractics, and naturopathy. A number of universities across the world have now rolled out structured courses on alternative therapy, and the regulation and licensing laws for alternate therapy vary from country to country.
Alternative therapy has been widely misunderstood and highly underrated in the medical realms. However, most forms are catching up with their contemporary counterparts. Historically, alternative therapies were known to be more effective than contemporary medicine in those conditions which are more complicated to treat by regular medication. Some other forms of care that is offered for the patients are 12-Step, Non-12-Step, Inpatient, Outpatient, Halfway House, Holistic etc.
How Alternative Therapy Can Help
One of the biggest benefits of alternative therapy over medication is the fact that most alternative therapies are free from side-effects. The exact benefits of alternative therapy are dependent upon the type or class of alternative medication.
Ayurveda: Ayurveda is based on the premise that the body’s condition is controlled by three humors called vatta, pitta, and kapha, and an imbalance in these three can cause the body to behave abnormally. Most ayurvedic medicines are based on herbs and animal extracts, which are completely “natural”.While, lack of quality control and usage of toxic herbs has been a major concern for users of this alternative therapy, Ayurveda claims to have a remedy for every illness, and the side effects are minimal as compared to other forms of medication.
Homeopathy: is probably one of the most famous alternative forms of medicine. This alternative medication is based on the premise that a disease can be cured by administering small doses of the same substance into the patient. This form is great for patients who aren’t comfortable with high doses of medication. Hit rate has been 80% in homeopathy and this alternative medicine form is known to cure diseases that are incurable using traditional forms of medication.
Naturopathy: is great for people who have been living a stressful lifestyle. This alternate therapy helps the patient to heal in a holistic way and has zero side effects. Naturopathy may involve a lot of meditation and breathing exercises while minimizing the use of chemical or natural medications altogether.
Acupuncture and chiropractic: these two forms of alternate therapy are all about finding pressure points in the human body and applying pressure to these points in order to heal the “areas” these points are connected to. As with most other forms of alternate therapy, these two forms keep the patient safe from the side effects of medication and get be really effective in cases of joint pain, muscle pain and other injuries.
