Defining

Dextrostat (Dextroamphetamine Sulfate) is an amphetamine used medically in treating ADHD and narcolepsy. Other drugs that are used to treat ADHD and are used as recreational drugs are Methamphetamine, Amphetamine, Dextroamphetamine, Methylphenidate etc.Dextrostat has also been used successfully in treating psychological disorders and some types of depression, alleviating fatigue amongst cancer patients, and HIV patients suffering from fatigue and depression. Dextrostat Do’s and Don’ts

Dextrostat should only be taken as prescribed. If a dose is missed, it is important not to double up the dosage, but take when remembered.

Individuals suffering from a pre-existing structural cardiovascular abnormalities should not take Dextrostat. Dextrostat tends to increase the blood pressure and excessive use can put a lot of pressure on the heart to pump in that extra blood.

Dextrostat should not be consumed if history of increased blood pressure or hypertension exist. The use of a stimulant can worsen the condition.

Individuals with pre-existing psychosis should not take Dextrostat because prolonged usage of the drug may lead to permanent long-term effects.

Individuals should not use Dextrostat for treating ADHD if the person has been diagnosed with a bipolar disorder. Such use can lead to emergence of new psychotic behavior.

Some Amphetamines, such as Dextrostat, contains FD&C Yellow no. 5 (tartrazine), which may cause allergic reaction. Individuals with a pre-existing condition of asthma are particularly susceptible to allergy induced due to Dextrostat usage. People with aspirin hypersensitivity should also refrain from taking Dextrostat.

Addiction and Overdose

Dextrostat has a tendency to increase the energy levels in human beings. The drug is highly susceptible to abuse and overuse can easily lead to addiction. Withdrawal symptoms that may accompany Dextrostat abuse can occur. Such symptoms may include:

Overdose of Dextrostat can lead to amphetamine psychosis, which in turn leads to auditory, visual and tactile hallucinations. In the case of dextroamphetamine overdose, the patient is rapidly cooled and given various medications to ensure they don’t have a heart attack or go into organ failure.

Treatment

The treatment for dextroamphetamine addiction involves managing the symptoms as there is no specific drug designed to treat them. However, some studies show that antidepressants decrease cravings for dextroamphetamines during the recovery process.
